The History of Embroidery
October 29, 2025Instructions for providing AI created artwork for Direct-to-Film (DTF) and UV DTF printing, ensuring results are vibrant, long-lasting designs but great results start with properly prepared artwork. Whether you’re printing apparel or hard goods, following a few key guidelines will help ensure your order prints cleanly and applies correctly.
DTF vs UV DTF: What’s the Difference?
DTF (Direct-to-Film) is used for fabric and apparel. Designs are heat-pressed onto garments and remain flexible and washable.
UV DTF is used for hard surfaces like tumblers, glass, plastic, metal, and wood. These decals are peel-and-stick with a rigid, glossy finish.
Because each process behaves differently, artwork quality and setup are critical.
Required File Format
For both DTF and UV DTF printing, artwork must be submitted as:
PNG format
Transparent background
300 DPI at final print size
Correct dimensions for your intended use
Files with white, black, or colored backgrounds are not transparent and will print exactly as submitted unless artwork cleanup is requested.
Artwork Quality Matters
Images that look great on screen don’t always print well. Low-resolution or AI-generated artwork may have soft edges, jagged lines, or muddy details when printed. Upscaling small images does not guarantee better quality. Clean edges, readable text, and intentional detail produce the best results.
Process-Specific Tips
For DTF, avoid extremely thin lines and tiny text, and consider garment color when designing.
For UV DTF, remember the print does not stretch—strong contrast and solid design elements work best.
AI-Generated Artwork
We accept AI-generated designs, but they are often created for digital use and may not be print-ready. Minor imperfections related to AI artwork are not considered printing defects. All orders require proof approval. Once approved, orders cannot be reprinted due to artwork quality issues.
Need Help?
Artwork cleanup, background removal, resizing, and print optimization are available for an additional fee and must be requested before production.
